I gathered up a handful of different fabrics from my stash (stash is what all we fabricaholics call the mountains of fabric they keep 'in hand'.
Looking at them, I think I need more pale grey and charcoal. Trip to the fabric store needed - perfect.
I have some wonderful fabric in stock, just waiting to be made into a luscious quilt. It is to include some "fussy cut" details featuring Japanese Geisha dolls in charcoal grey, crimson and white.
But.... I also wanted to put together the quilt using the 'row by row' technique.
I don't usually share my work until it's a finished product, but this time, I'm going to take you through from start to finish :-).
Here's my first draught of the design - one of the blocks is a little indistinct to say the least - it'll shape up though.
Sample blocks will follow soon!
We haven't been very good at posting recently - been too busy designing and making products!
The result of all this industry is more cabbage. Those very small off-cuts which really can't be used in other ways!
What do we do with this cabbage? We take it to the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. A local charity which supports end of life care. An extremely worthy cause.
Later this week, I'll be going into our local Phyliis Tuckwell with 3 bags of cabbage which they sell as rag per kilo.
I am always checking out our local charity shops for end of bolt fabrics, trimmings and cushion pads (all new and unused), sometimes I am really lucky and individual items in one charity shop go together really well. A trip to the local Barnados store was rewarding. I found 2 metres of gorgeous teal cotton fabric with random sea themed stencils. I was just about to pay for it when I spotted a silk scarf in the same teal - but a batik pattern - all around the edge were metal round 'coins'. The scarf was brand new (had tags). So I got my finds home and decided to remove the 'coins' from the scarf to decorate the new project....
